The Story:
Changeling is the story of a brave and strong mother, Christine Collins, whose son, Walter Collins, a nine-year-old boy, went missing on March 10th, 1928. After five months of Walter's disappearance, the LAPD found a boy who claimed to be him. For his mother's momentary relief, a public reunion between mother and child was arranged by the police. But when Christine Collins finally saw that young boy, she realised he wasn't her son. She claimed to the police that they had made a mistake, but Captain J. J. Jones refused to accept it and had Mrs. Collins committed to the psychiatric ward at Los Angeles County Hospital. With the help of an amazing and righteous reverend, Mrs. Collins was set free and went on to win a lawsuit against Jones. At the same time, the police visited the Northcott Ranch in Wineville and found almost twenty corpses in there. The boys had been brutally killed by the ranch's owner, Gordon Stewart Northcott. After a more detailed research and the witness of Northcott's fourteen-year-old nephew, Sanford Clark, the police eventually realised that little Walter Collins was among the victims.
Though everything seemed to prove Walter's death, Christine Collins never stopped looking for her son.
"Three boys tried to escape that night, and if one boy got away then maybe one or both of the other two escaped too. Maybe he's out there somewhere, afraid to tell the truth, afraid of what will happen to him or to me. But one thing I know is that boy gave me something I didn't have before... Hope.
